I couldn't do it, but I respect him for his choice. Being short will absolutely limit yourself in the roles you can get in Hollywood. Unless you're super creative, are well connected or have your own production studio, you will be cast to silly comedic jester-like roles.

It's interesting "how popular" this surgery is becoming with Hollywood hopefuls. A lot of "regular" guys have been going through with these operations, but as it becomes more "acceptable" (in the loosest sense of the world), a lot of the men going for this have huge ambitions and believe height is their main obstacle.

understandable as there is not a single aspect which would greatly improve a short mans quality of life like becoming 4+ inches taller would.

This is about a true as it gets. Unless you have a god-like face like Tom Cruise or Mark Whalberg, you're relegated to Jack Black or Ben Stiller characters. Some other groups of men may get a pass, but even then it's rare to break out as a leading man.

I won't argue with this in the social sense, but on that note, I am surprised he came out publicly with this. I'm guessing career prospects would blow up in his face if he didn't and someone dug it up, but either way this public information will haunt him some way with the press. There is no way for someone to be conspicuous with something like this if their aim is to live their life in the public eye.

The only leading man I can think of who got no pushback is Joe Pesci and Jack Nicholson, though Nicholson is close to average.

I couldn't go through with it, but I don't have anything negative to say about the guy. There is enough information out there to know what his fate would be in Hollywood with his ambitions while being 5'5. 5'8 isn't tall, but not short enough to put in the jester category.

in a world where many 5'2 women consider a 5'10 man as being too short for them, anything under 5'9 is considered as jester territory in the western world.
