How do you know when plane tickets drop?

A friend of mine wants to come in from out of state in September. We planend for August but the tickets are nearly $300 more. Will or can they drop between now and then?

They sometimes drop the month before but it is hard to say. Usually after a major holiday the prices go down. Have him check again after the 4th of July.

Dez is somewhat right but it is hard to scale when they will drop. Sometimes they drop $200+ one week and shoot up $300 the next. Depends on where he is coming from as well.

I would just check around. I think they drop on Tuesdays but don't take me word to the grave on that. Maybe google search it and see what experienced travelers say.
