5'6 Writer Revisits Her Heightism And Begrudgingly Considers Settling For Average | Height And Dating | She Had Her Fun | Short Men | Short Guys | TheLowerView

A 5'6 writer reflects on her staunch preference for extremely tall men and begrudgingly considers settling for an average height man.

Here are some takeaways:

She recognizes her aim to adhere to extreme height differences because admiration and social approval is as, or more important to her than palpable attraction and character. She uses "them" and "they" a lot to shift the blame to "most" women and takes the spotlight off of herself (though she does use examples of other women's dating habits who she interviewed to demonstrate this point).

She admits to only or mostly dating extremely tall men ("NBA height" as she put it), so shorter men were completely invisible to her

She gave her youthful adult years to taller men exclusively,  and now that she's "gotten most of it out of her system", you might get a chance and, you better be grateful for it.

She still doesn't really find shorter men attractive, but since she recognizes that she's getting older, she may begrudgingly settle for someone shorter than she wants to get long-term commitment, but not "short" (still can't get passed that huh?). She may do "average" (and cringing/keeping a straight face while doing so).

What's most disturbing (but not surprising) is her using her unfortunate traumatic experience to blame shift her preference instead of just saying that she finds taller men attractive.

She does this because in the spirit of saving face because she feels bad about having this preference, and I suspect that the guilt is for not being able to lock one of them down.

Like it's okay to want what you want lady, just own it.

"Spent many years with tall men who were shorter on character".

Translation: "I was an FWB at best and I can't stand it anymore, so let me swallow my ego a try a shorter guy".

Be careful out there men!

Boy would they be in for a rude awakening (especially the men) the moment they step off at JFK or LAX!

Heightism in political cartoons.

Note how Mayor Johnson and the Hispanic immigrant in the cartoon are portrayed as much shorter (no coincidence that the mayor's facial features are hyper-exaggerated either).

Heightism is inescapable in the greater society, but these social commentators purposefully use these tactics to convey a specific message.
