10 years ago - Our initial launch.
12 years ago we launched AtEyeLevel, a heightism observational blog on a social media site. 10 years ago, we went independent with the first iteration of this site under the same name. A year later, we rebranded. Today in 2024, we have rebranded once again and rebuilt the site from the ground up with the assistance of fantastic developers. Our mission is the same!
Here is a look back at an article which highlighted our original launch. |

short women and height pickiness
I think it's because they recieve so many messages that tell them short = bad. It's a way of trying to erase their own shortness. |

Anyone would rather choose Ebola/Smallpox than being short?
I am very ardent against being short and I discovered having Ebola or Smallpox is better than being short after all of my researches about short men's mental healths and my own feelings about it. If there were 2 options for me: 2.Being around 188cm-190cm with Ebola/Smallpox. I will never hesitate to choose the second one. |

Keep your Head Up
In spite of everything negative people say or the various ways they choose to insult you, disrespect you, or attack your dignity. In spite of however low you may feel inside when you see your small frame in the mirror........keep your head up, put a smile on your face, breath oxygen, live and love yourself. If YOU don't; who will? |

Pants that fit
My devoted, wonderful wife ordered me two pairs of brand new pants and I tried them on this morning. For the first time in my life, they fit. Immediately. Out of the box. Cut right for me, a short guy. Highly recommend: petermanningnyc.com |

my taller little sister
Im a guy and at 14 i was 4'10 and stoped growing since (i am now 21). My little sister is 3 years younger and was 4'8 and 11 years old, pretty short. One day, when i was 15 and she was 12, she wanted to compare our heights since she had grown and turned out to be slightly taller than me. i was jealous, but thought that she was just having an early puberty and that i would eventually catch up to her. Although things began to get worse. after a couple of months, she was noticeably taller than me being 5'5 tall. And thats when her growth spurt really began. after an year, she had grown 5 inches, standing at 5'10, she was now a whole foot taller. But it didnt end there, she would grow for the next two years and become 6'7 at the age of 15, and at 16, became 6'10 barefoot! I was so jealous and knew that i had no hopes of catching up to her. She likes to rub this into my face. She likes comparing shoe sizes and whenever i tried her shoes they were WAY TO BIG on me. She would also wear really tall heel (like 7 inches) making her 7'5 and my head only reach her waist. She could carry me with no effort . So i am now 4'10 and 21 with a 18 year old sister 2 feet taller than me and i learned to adapt with it. She still likes to compare heights in front of the mirror with her tallest heels on. |

What is the thing you find hardest to buy?
I just have trouble shopping in general. LOL I hate it and I never know what looks best on me so I try to avoid it. I will shop online most of the time though which makes it easier to find my sizes. |

Community and Acceptance when short
I hope to find a group of people who uderstand what it's like, since that is absent in my real life. I spent years telling myself I wasnt treated differently, and it was all in my head, but I was right. Others noticed. So looking back at it, I knew at a young age hieght discrimination was a thing, I just refused to accept it. Memories burned into my mind have shaped the angry and depressed person I am. Best example was in middle school. Girl comes up to me unprovoked in shop class and starts making fun of my hieght. I knew she was in foster care, so when I'd had enough, I told her to stop being a bitch and her mother might come back. She flew into a rage and punched me in the face. Only when I told her if she swung at me again, itd be on did the teacher intervene. I was the only one who got in trouble. Was what I said harsh? Sure. I'll admit that. But was hitting me in retaliation a reasonable response? Hell no. And the principle told me she had free reigh to hit me if I said anything about her mom again. That molded me into the broken person I am today. Honestly, and no offense, but other short guys are worse than average or tall people, as I can only imagine empathy is overpowered by the joy of not being 'the short one'. I isolate myself because I'm sick of the double standards and bullshit I deal with, and if I do anything other than laugh I'm an asshole. I don't fit in, figuratively and literally. How do you guys handle it? Go out into the world and know you're the only acceptable target? I've been through counseling, therapy, and meds, and every time I end up the same way; tired of people's shit and withdrawn from the society that rejects me and I crave acceptance in. Sorry for word wall, I just want to know how people who deal with similar life stories go on. |
