I don't doubt it's real. There are plenty of shorter guys who accept things for what they are and don't care what others think. It takes a hot minute to get to that mental state for many though.

Proof that the proverbial "Napoleon Complex" doesn't exist. It's actually the Giant or Tall Man Complex.

I've seen this complex at work and in sports where a taller guy feels threatened when a shorter guy outperforms him.
