Job interview advice
post #1

I just finished my degree in computer science and am now going to Job Fairs to look for a position in IT. I've been to a few job fairs and amidst all of the people who get into conversations with the employers at the booths, interest seems to disappear when it's time for them to talk to me. I notice that some of my taller competitors don't get that look of disappointment. I have great credentials. Any advice so I can stand out from my peers?

Speak with a firm loud tone. Do not allow yourself to be cut off mid sentence (say, "please allow me to finish"), use your hands when you talk and be sure to dress up and groom to a tee.

Another friend was on his 2nd year and working for Air Force doing debugging. He said it was fun. If you're intelligent like that you kick it.

Greek interview of short Korean war veteran rejected for a job because of height

The man in the video served in Korea for 1–2 years. Returning home, he applied for an army job as a veteran. A general, mistaking him at first for an American, asked his height after noticing his short stature. When the veteran said 1.60 m (5'3"), the general told him to leave, citing a 1.70 m (5'7") height requirement still enforced today. The veteran protested, noting no one measured him before the war despite multiple medical exams. The argument escalated, but the general refused him, forcing him into years of petty jobs. A decade later, a governor who knew of his sacrifices gave him a decent job. In the video, he still resents the general for the injustice.
