Photoshoot Praises Curvy Women But Trashes Short Guys

Huffington Post: Ashley Graham's Sexist Shoot Is Also Her Most Powerful

I've read other forums where they "celebrate" what a "victory" this is for both curvy women and short men, but I would be a million dollars that in real life, this model could not or would not want to be able to pick up her boyfriend this way and has an impermeable preference for men not shorter than herself.

Anyone come across taller people who think they earned their height?

Every time I go to a family function or a reunion type of event, the subject of how short I am compared to others comes up and annoys me to no end. While I brush most of it off, there is always one idiot type who preaches to me about how I should've slept more, ate more, exercised more and that it's "my fault" that I'm short. All of those things I'm accused of not doing, I did, but I know very well that I am short because my family is short overall.

Anyone come across these ignorant asshats who think they "earned" their height?

Where do you guys buy your coats?

Whenever I go to the big box retailers, I can find coats my size, but either the chest space is way too big, or the sleeves way too long. I prefer bubble coats, or coats with fur hoodies (think Canada Goose). I'm 5'6. Where do you guys get your coats?

Can women to be attracted to a short guys like they are to tall men?

When a woman is attracted to me, I notice that it is "different" than the way she is when attracted to a tall man. It's like there's something more special, like a certain way they look at taller guys. When women are with short guys it doesn't quite seem the same. Anyone else notice this?

Just bought a new car, perfect for my size. Tall friends hate it lol

Just bought a mini cooper, a car I wanted for a long time. Ignoring the obvious puns, this baby can fit in just about any parking space. My childhood best friend who is now 6'3 complained to no end when sitting in the back seat when all of the guys went out for a guy's night last week lol. We all had a laugh.

Any of you into small whips like myself or do you hover closer to the short man stereotype of driving big cars and big trucks?

Personally, the smaller the car, the better (as long as we're not talking about those one seat smart cars, then I'd get claustrophobic). smiley

My height is affecting my job

Hello,

I've just started my career as an electrical engineer , I came to know the hard way how your height can affect your job,
I really can feel how our clients are not comfortable when they see for the first time , they always expect some 6ft tall engineer to deal with.

It's really frustrating , Why do we have to be born with this liability ?

Thnx

OK Cupid now lists height in Tinder style feature

Now women are removing their height from their profiles. Wonder why? It makes sense that they'd add this though since height is the #1 filter that most women use.

Why is leg lengthening looked down on or plastic surgery in general?

I don't get why plastic surgery is acceptable for women and not for men. I know maybe 5 women who have had plastic surgery in the last two months or so. One had a tummy tuck. Another one had a nose job. Another woman at 5' tall went from a C bra to an EE. Another had her but lifted.

These women talk about it so openly and congratulate each other on it. If I bring up a man getting his tummy tucked, hair restoration or leg lengthening, they say things like "eww" and "that's so creepy". There's also the "be yourself".

How can you say "be yourself" when you dye your gray hairs and get all of these surgeries? Why is this unacceptable for men. The woman friend of mine who had a boob job says she loves the attention she gets from men but did it for herself. Wouldn't leg lengthening do the same for us men?

What genetic factors play into height?

Has anyone figured this out yet? I keep reading things like "maybe if you ate your greens you would've grown more", but what about people like me whose parents cooked every other day and fed me healthy food. Lots of meats, greens and very little junk food. I got plenty of exercise, was an athlete in high school and still I didn't grow to average or above average height? By comparison, one of my best friends in High School ate nothing but junk food (candy, sweets, etc).

They say that height is 80% genetic and 20% environmental. Anyone have any insight as to which genes play into height and what a person can do to mitigate short stature? Not that there's anything wrong with it, but I'm curious.

Woman keeps making fun of my height at work. How do I report it?

I have this woman at work who never seems to miss an opportunity to make fun of my height. Whether it's calling me a hobbit, putting things high in the air and asking me to reach it, asking me to stand next to taller people or reminding me that no woman would want a man who isn't even real.

At our holiday party this year, she asked me why I hadn't come dressed as an elf and told me to not bother asking for a raise because I wouldn't be able to reach it. This was in front of all of the other employees.

I cannot understand why for the life of me this kind of behavior is tolerated. If I was to even suggest that she were slightly overweight I would probably receive some kind of corrective action (I've seen this happen before).

Our HR department is full of women and I don't think they will take my complaints seriously. Do you have any advice on how I should approach this?

Anyone salty when they hear women talk about "body acceptance"?

There is an awesome article where Radio Host Mumia Obsidian Ali talks about this very topic. He examines People Magazine's Sexiest Man going all the way back to 1985 and found that with the exception of one person (Tom Cruise), every man was 5'10-6'2, white and ripped (Denzel Washington was the only Non-White).

An Idea to Challenge the Heightism towards Men

The title says all; I will explain:  A way to address heightism is by making shortness , stylish.  To do this, would mean that companies would have to hire short male models.  The problem is, nowadays consumer market economy/culture forces companies and businesses to use only what is deemed attractive; they make what is stylish and trendy.  Becuase there aren't short male models or short lead male actors, we receive this treatment.  Being portrayed as that silly, unserious follower needs to stop.  And thus, being short is considered unattractive.  That's the problem.  As a shorter man, you need to be stylish.  To push this even farther, you need to be kind of mainstream. We also need supporters.
