How do you guys dress on first dates?

I am trying to reapproach this idea of a button down, jeans and shiny dress shoes and maybe a tie thing. Since you never know if there will be a second date, and the way women dress varies from woman to woman, I'm putting less emphasis in looking my best. I mean I wouldn't show up in a tee shirt and converses, but like its summer now and wearing a tie a tucking in my shirt isn't cutting it anymore. 
  
What has worked for you? Do you dress to impress? Who doesn't care at all?

If you're going to dress like trash, don't be mad if your date isn't receptive to you. It's always to go above and beyond than to under deliver. If you insist on a T shirt, dress it up with a blazer. If it's too hot, make sure you have a nice looking graphic tee with newer sneakers or something.

whatever i decide to wear i make sure i have a nice watch and good footwear. an old wives tale is a woman can tell how stable a man is based on his footwear and wristwear.

I wear a unstructured sport coat, button up shirt, dark slimmer jeans, and  stylish (non cowboy) boots. Smart casual.
